| Society Summer Trips 2003 |
During the Summer months, the Society organises trips to local houses of note, this summer we are visiting places such as Shobdon, Aymestry, Wigmore and the imposing house Monaughty at Knighton Radnorshire.
The Shobdon, Aymestry, Wigmore visits all took place on the same day, beginning at Shobdon church, a walk up to the Shobdon Arches and as a treat of being allowed access to the grounds of Shobdon Court.
Then on to the visitor centre for refreshments, from there to Aymestry to view the site of the 'Monks Bowling Green' an flat elevated area which is believed to be the site of early building work on a early monastry.
Finally on to Wigmore, first to take in the Parish church, which has amongst
it's architecture, what are believed to be the stone columns originally
destined for the Monks Bowling Green.
Our final stop was at Wigmore Abbey, where we were given a tour of this
magnificent building, but not before refreshments were laid on by the present
owners.
Our Second Summer trip was to the house name Monaughty, situated near Knighton, Radnorshire.
Monaughty is noted for the fact that it has not been altered in any significant way since about 1630.
Due to the scale of attendance of members, we were split into 2 party's of about 25 and we were taken around the house by two experienced guides.
The house is only open by appointment.
All trips are restricted to members only.
