Society Summer Trips 2007 |
During the Summer months, the Society organises trips to local houses or villages of note, this summer we are visiting places such as Tenbury Wells, Berkeley Castle and the Jenner Museum.
Our first trip of the season will be to Tenbury Wells .
The town grew up around the River Teme and has been a major crossing point since
the Iron Age, when it connected many of the Iron Age forts, such as Clee Hill
in the north and Garnsley in the south.
Visit to Berkeley Castle, which is the oldest castle in Britain to be lived in by the same family for 900 years.
This is where King Edward II was murdered and where the Barons of the west gathered before Magna Carta.
Adjacent to the castle is the Edward Jenner Museum, the elegant Queen Anne house is called the Chantry and is where Edward Jenner, who invented the smallpox vaccination, lived.
Visit to Much Wenlock and Shipton Hall.
Much Wenlock lies at the eastern end of Shropshire's famous Wenlock edge in
an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Shipton Hall is a beautiful Elizabethan Manor House, built around 1587.
At the front of the house is an old fashioned walled garden which provides a
perfect setting for the elizabethan architecture.
All trips are restricted to members only.
