History & Technique

This technique comes from the Arab World and it is known to be made in the finest leathers that were mainly used to produce deluxe book editions, photo frames and all type of ornaments.

Nowadays the embossed technique is produced world wide, but Mexico is known for its variety of designs and the materials used.

This process is based on the raising of different levels of any image you can think of. It is just a matter of your own creativity and patience. To highlight the embossed image the lower layer is decorated with a "killer", which means that the color will be darker than the embossed image.

Nowadays, besides leather, this technique is used around the world and its done in copper, aluminium and brass.

In Mexico it is commonly used in ornaments, and because of its variety and original designs, this technique has become one of the most popular Mexican handcrafts.

It can be applied to frames, clocks, photo frames, ornamental boxes or whatever object you can think of..... the limit is your imagination.
