CHANGES AND APOLOGIES
5th JUNE 2003

IT HAS COME TO OUR ATTENTION THAT OUR CHANGE TO AN HISTORICAL
DARK AGE SETTING WAS NOT MET WITH ENTHUSIASM BY
THE MAJORITY OF PLAYERS, WHO WOULD PREFER TO CONTINUE
IN OUR FANTASY GAMEWORLD. OUR GLORIOUS LEADER HAS
TAKEN THE REMARKABLE AND UNIQUE DECISION TO ACKNOWLEDGE
HIS ERROR - BASED, OF COURSE, ON THE WORD OF
POOR ADVISORS WHO HAVE MET WITH THEIR OWN NIGHT OF THE
LONG KNIVES - AND HAS RE-INTRODUCED THE LEVIATHAN DARK AGE
FANTASY GAME. ENJOY.

Seriously, folks, players have chosen to continue to support
the fantasy game, which is much appreciated. This has, however,
resulted in a slight hiccup, so CHECK THE
REVISED EVENT DATES please. First event will
now be JULY 18-19-20. In the meanwhile, please take
a look at DWEEB WORLD, which we know you're gonna love...

Welcome to the world of Leviathan.
Our Fantasy Live Role Play is set in a Dark Age world of adventure.
Warring nations vie for power amid the ruins of long-dead empires.
Vile creatures stalk the wilderness, and great riches
lie in lost tombs and ruins awaiting the brave or foolish adventurer.
Merchant princes extend their control as trade in arms and fine
goods blossoms, and the fighting pits of the known
world reverberate to the roars of the fickle crowd.
Step into our world, and make it your own...

Ever wanted a live role play game where the plot actually seems to be affected by your input?
Where the ordinary player can wade in and make a difference?
Where there is no in-crowd of high-ranking players who don't let you join in?
Where character and plot outweigh random monster bashing?
Hmmm, sounds like you were looking for us...

2003 sees great change in the Leviathan FRP game.
We have taken the last two years and nine events as a very steep learning curve, and have spent the winter sheltering in our lavishly-appointed hovel thrashing out a new system. Those who have played before will recognise it as the combination of the best bits of the old, mixed with the best ideas which have been floating around for a while, minus the really irritating bits, plus some pretty damn good entirely new bits.

So what are the major changes?

First, no magick! Well, no point-and-click magick anyway. Sick of implementing an entirely new magick system each event, with no real input or interest from the majority of players, we have reverted to our original idea again. (thanks, by the way, are due to the few players and many staff who put up with and helped immeasurably in the struggles towards a workable and good magick system). Magick now appears in the form of artefacts. Somehow imbued with magickal powers in times long past, when the arts were stronger than in our time, these objects are now rare and much sought after. If you find one, you may be able to use its power. Beware, though, of the powers it may possess of which you are unaware. Also be wary of those who covet such objects, who will think nothing of slaying and stealing for their own personal gain. If you should discover any of these artefacts in play, you must also discover how to use them.

Another change is costume. Many players, especially those who have never played LRP before, have managed to create excellent costumes. There are still some real turkeys, though. Now we will implement the costume watch which has been threatened for two years. A good 'Dark Age' costume does not have to cost lots of money. Two blankets cost less than £5 at my local 2nd hand shop, and will make one and a half costumes. Find a short friend and go halves. Some costume will be available for sale at events. If you do not have a passable costume, you will not be allowed to play. This includes footwear - no obviously modern shoes, please, and definitely no trainers or wellies. Spend your money on costume before you buy a weapon. You can play very well and with full enjoyment without a weapon, but not without a costume. New players - don't be afraid of this measure. Everyone should check out the 'costume' link below, and have a look at what is considered 'good' costume. There's a 'how-to' section there, also.

The third major change is atmosphere. Gone are the warring houses and shifting alliances of House Morune and House Selene. Time marches on - apparently without any major change in technology, but never mind - and the Doomsday Wars swept all away in their carnage and fire. The new nations now vie for power. The four major nation states of the Nordlingen, Jarael, Kheeros and Sarmania nudge borders warily, while the peoples of the Picts, Duergair and Elendi make their own way in a hostile world.
