Bahá’í Academy for the Arts

At the end of July, two Bahá'ís from Northern Ireland were among those attending the Bahá'í Academy of the Arts, near Bristol. It lasted for a week, and was a fantastic experience in every way. There were so many different courses to choose from, most of which were taught by experts in their field. Kiyan Khosravi and Rosie Villiers-Stuart were among those doing Meditation. This Course was run separately from the main Academy - as was the Bahá'í Studies Course but the participants were very much a part of everything. This Bahá’í Studies Course was mainly for youth, though some adults attended as well. It was evidently really hard work, as was the non-fiction Writing Course, but everyone felt it was well worth it. Interior Design ended with a really professional finish, and Shiatsu, taught by Anne from the Republic, was great fun and very rewarding.

Sara had a wonderful time painting on silk. Otto Don Rodgers was also there, as artist in residence, working with the more professional artists. Omid Ojalili entertained us right royally in the evening with everyone failing about in laughter.

Though there was no classical music course, the music generally was of a very high standard. An excellent Choir voiced their talents, singing some of the numbers that the Northern Ireland Bahá'í choir thought were their very own! On the final evening we were treated to a wonderful and very professional musical extravaganza.

We really must thank our two wonderful organisers, Margaret and Cecilia. They were superb. They described themselves as ‘two middle-aged Mums’. They were so calm even when, tragically, someone died of a heart attack on the first night.

For anyone who feels they would like to go, it is strongly recommended. There is

one small proviso however. Check that the course you choose is really what you want. Try and find out exactly what it is all about. All in all. a great learning experience. Truly, it is amazing what two middle-aged Mums can do!!
