The general idea of this new kind of personal favourite chart is to be a little bit different from the usual 'Top-Ten-In-A-Particular-Decade' sites that are fairly ubiquitous on the Web.
Being set within a more concentrated time-span, this means that you are looking more closely and intimately at a period in your life that means so much rather than a whole decade - a length of time which may have either a beginning or an end which means next to nothing for some, either because they were too young or had settled down. Let's face it. That's the way life works - and now there's a personal hit parade site that recognises that fact.
Also, being a 'Top Twenty', as opposed to a 'Top Ten', it is hoped that people will feel that they have freer rein to let their imaginations run riot.
So, without much further ado, just take whatever time you like to recall that magical time when you, along with others of your generation, (no matter when that was), were establishing an identity that was quintessentially you and of your time and, if you were lucky, finding young love!
The 'ground rules' are as follows:
The records picked must come from a period running from the beginning of the calendar
year in which your 16th birthday fell up until the end of the calendar year in which
your 21st birthday fell - in other words, a six-year-long period.
The records you pick need not necessarily be the c/w ('A' sides) of singles. They could just
as easily be 'Killer-B's', if you like, or even 'stand-out' album/EP tracks that just 'hit the
spot'.
It isn't expected that you put them in any sort of order. I wouldn't expect you to be that
'anorak-ish'. Remember, you're on this site to have fun! You may, though, feel like
picking out one particular favourite that means something extra-special. Do what you like, as
long as you stick to the 'ground rules' and observe the following 'word of warning'.
By way of a word of warning, although I have, in my own 'Top Twenty',
made a few remarks here and there that I freely admit are sexual in tone this should in
no way be taken as a cue for anybody to use this form for using crude or obscene language or, (and this
applies to both genders), to use the form personally to proposition me - If you click on the
aforementioned link I think it should become obvious that these remarks are still, though, in the grand scheme of
things, pretty mild and inoffensive. In any case, there are also important instructions there for those using StarOffice
with MSIE integrated as an 'external browser' - Any entries of this
nature will most assuredly find themselves very rapidly in the 'trash'! So please don't waste
your time - or indeed mine! - doing this. The same applies to those contacting me via regular E-Mail. There is
nothing wrong, though, in remembering a sexual frisson from one's youth, associated with
popular music, with affection. It's all a normal part of growing up and after all, much of
popular music is based on sexual attraction. Just don't let things spill over into overt crudity or obscenity.
That's all I ask. In return for this consideration, although your E-Mail address will become
known to me on sending in your entry you have my guarantee that I shall not personally abuse
that knowledge in any way or, indeed, knowingly make it, or any other of your personal
details, known to third parties without your express permission. (See the bottom of this form.)
